Our Feeding Program targets malnourished children in the slums and in arid and semi-arid areas. We target communities that are vulnerable and neglected. We focus our School Feeding on schools that are not in the government and WFP run School Feeding Program. Our Feeding Program targets malnourished children in the slums and in arid and semi-arid areas. To mitigate Food Security, we encourage schools that have reliable sources of water to run School Gardens and Greenhouses. Greenhouses and School Gardening remain fundamental learning facilities especially to students who have an interest in Agriculture.

Uzima Aid recently partnered with the Israeli Embassy in Nairobi to build a Greenhouse for the Star Of Hope Primary School in Lunga Lunga slum. The Star Of Hope Primary School is an overcrowded poor school found in the sprawling Lunga Lunga slum (Informal Settlement). The students can now supplement the monotonous diet of maize and beans with the vegetable that is grown in the greenhouse.

Together with partners we are planning to replicate the success of this Greenhouse Initiative in Star Of Hope Primary School in other slum schools. We have been approached by many schools to do the same in their schools.

How you can get involved

  • Adopt a Greenhouse Project in a school of your choice in the slum.
  • Fund a component of the Greenhouse project in a slum school.
  • Volunteer your expertise.

Balanced Diet – With School grown food students get practical knowledge of modern agricultural techniques and have access to balanced diets courtesy of the Gardens and Greenhouses.
This knowledge transfer is the key to food security in Kenya and Africa.

Demonstration Farm – We have a modern grafted mangoes demonstration farm in Busia. Students in Busia County and the neighbouring Counties use this farm as a learning facility. The bigger picture is to set up modern demonstration farms in all the 47 Counties in Kenya for knowledge transfer. This is the key to food security. Apart from Grafting we are planning to introduce poultry farming and animal husbandry in these demonstration farms.
